JETBLUE IS EXPANDING ITS NONSTOP FLIGHTS TO CUBA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
27 JUNE 2018
JETBLUE IS EXPANDING ITS NONSTOP FLIGHTS TO CUBA
JetBlue is expanding to Cuba — again.

The New York City-based carrier has announced plans to launch new flights from Boston to Havana, along with an increase in flights to Havana from Fort Lauderdale.

The new flights mean JetBlue will fly from more American cities to Cuba than any other airline.

“As the first airline to operate commercial service between the U.S. and Cuba, we are proud to celebrate another first as the only carrier to serve Havana from Boston while also growing our successful service in Fort Lauderdale,” said John Checketts, vice president network planning, JetBlue. “JetBlue will operate more than 50 weekly flights between the U.S. and Cuba from every one of our east coast focus cities.”

JetBlue said it would be launching weekly Saturday service from Boston to Havana beginning Nov. 10.

The company said it had been seeking a nonstop route from Boston to Havana since it first applied for commercial flights to Cuba in 2016.

The expanded Fort Lauderdale service will see the launch of an additional flight operating Sunday through Friday, meaning up to three daily flights from Fort Lauderdale to Havana.

The new flight will be a new afternoon departure from Fort Lauderdale and a new evening flight from Havana.

UNITED AIRLINES INCREASES TO DAILY SERVICE BETWEEN HOUSTON AND HAVANA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
31 July 2018

UNITED AIRLINES INCREASES TO DAILY SERVICE BETWEEN HOUSTON AND HAVANA

Another U.S. city gained enhanced access to the warmth and charm of Cuba. United Airlines now offers a daily non-stop flight from Houston to Havana, expanding on the original Saturday only flight that began in 2016.

United Airlines today announced it is increasing service between Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Havana’s José Martí International Airport beginning July 20. Subject to government approval, United will operate the new daily service with either Boeing 737-800 mainline aircraft or Embraer E175 regional aircraft operated by Mesa Airlines as United Express. Tickets are now available for purchase.

“This expansion to Havana will provide significant public benefits to our city, region and state. As a diverse global city – in which many people speak Spanish – we are heavily reliant on international travel for our economic success,” said Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. “Worldwide access to Houston by air helps bring financial health back to Houston after Hurricane Harvey. The addition of Havana to Houstonians’ travel options will also help us build cultural bridges with our neighbor nation across the gulf.”

“United’s new daily service to Cuba will offer more opportunities to connect our customers traveling from Houston and the central and western United States directly to Havana,” said Patrick Quayle, United’s vice president of International Network. “Houston is United’s gateway to Latin America and its convenient location offers customers easy access to connect to 44 destinations across our broad domestic network.”

UNITED IN CUBA

From Houston, United provides the only service to Havana from the entire central and western United States. In 2017, United Airlines opened its first city ticket office in Havana enabling United to provide Cubans and other international customers the opportunity to purchase travel on United Airlines. United also provides daily nonstop service between New York/Newark and Havana.

U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT SOFTENS TRAVEL ADVISORY ON CUBA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
24 August 2018

U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT SOFTENS TRAVEL ADVISORY ON CUBA

The United States on Thursday revised its travel advisory on Cuba to “exercise increased caution,” from “reconsider travel,” a move that some in the tourism sector hope could help reverse a decline in American visitors to the Caribbean island.

The U.S. State Department had warned its citizens last year not to visit the country because of a spate of still unexplained illnesses among its embassy personnel in Havana.

The new U.S. travel advisory acknowledges, however, that these so-called “attacks” seemed to target those personnel and not private citizens, and therefore simply advises travelers to “exercise increased caution in Cuba.”

Cuba and many analysts have branded the warning on travel to the Communist-run island as politically motivated. Republican U.S. President Donald Trump had announced in 2017 he would partially roll back a detente with Havana by his Democratic predecessor Barack Obama.

The State Department reported similar illnesses this year among U.S. Embassy staff in China, but did not issue a warning on travel to that country.

The warning on travel to Cuba along with tighter restrictions issued last year that made it more difficult for Americans to travel there independently have dampened a recent boom in U.S. visitors to the island.

U.S. EMBASSY RESUMES SERVICES IN HAVANA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
29 August 2018
U.S. EMBASSY RESUMES SERVICES IN HAVANA

The same day the State Department downgraded Cuba’s travel advisory to Level 2, it also announced that the Havana embassy was resuming a full range of services for American citizens.

Via the U.S. Embassy Website: As of August 23, 2018, the U.S. Embassy in Havana resumed offering the full range of American Citizen Services including passport renewals, first time passport applications, notary services, authentication services, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA), and emergency assistance to U.S. citizens in Cuba.

The U.S. Embassy resuming services and the State Department revising its travel advisory all in the same week will help Travel Planners get back on track with meeting and incentive planning in Havana for 2019 and beyond. “We are actively selling Havana to the MICE Market, and the State Department’s return of full American citizen services in Cuba can help all travelers feel as safe and confident here as they would anywhere in the world” said Casey Lazar, Director of Group Sales at Cuba Incentive Travel Associates (CITA).

CITA is the only Cuba DMC focused exclusively on incentive quality group travel to Cuba for the U.S. MICE industry. Together, our U.S. staff and Havana partners deliver high quality, turnkey programs providing authentic Cuban experiences.
